If you are looking for something more to do while at camp, there are lots of options nearby
- Cliffs: on the other side of the river adjacent to the Scout Camp – a couple of minutes walk. There are some pre-bolted climbs here, but there are far more climbs just around the corner at Hanging Rock – access from the top of Guilds Road. Refer to “climbnz” web page for climb details. This is a well used climbing area
- Mountain Bike Track: Raincliff Forest is five minutes drive from the Scout Camp, along Middle Valley Road – full of tracks ranging from kid-friendly flat tracks located near the car park through to down hill/endure with jumps etc. You can easily spend all day here exploring different tracks. You could also walk these tracks.
- Other Tracks in close vicinity to the Scout Camp:
- Pioneer Park - spend anywhere from 15 minutes to a couple of hours at this site.
- Kakahu Forest – again anywhere from 30 minutes to a couple of hours.
• Further Afield Walks:
- Mt. Peel - anywhere from a couple of hours/half day/¾ day
- Spur’s Hut – anywhere from a couple of hours to a full day
- Mt. Nimrod – a couple of hours. - For the More Experienced:
- Opihi Gorge – this is a big day’s walk! (Used to be a formed track but bridge was taken out in the 1994 floods and has never been rebuilt. We are hopeful of a rebuild in the future). This track runs from other side of the gorge, through Fairlie, Kimbell and just sy of Mt. Dobson Ski Field (this track can also be biked).
